Dick Van Dyke as Rob Petrie


  • Dick was born on December 13, 1925 in West Plains, Missouri.
  • He was raised in Danville, Illinois.
  • He never went to college.
  • First TV appearance was in 1953 hosting his own daily kid's show in Atlanta.
  • His movies include: Mary Poppins, Bye Bye Birdie, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
  • He has four children: Christian, Barry, Stacy, and Carrie Beth.
  • Chris and Barry appeared in episode #22 "The Talented Neighborhood"
  • Barry and Dick starred in the CBS TV series Diagnosis Murder 1993-2001.
  • Jerry Van Dyke is his brother, and also played his brother "Stacey" on The Dick Van Dyke Show and Diagnosis Murder

  • Mary was born on December 29, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York. 
  • First TV appearance was in 1955 as "Happy Hotpoint" the Hotpoint Appliance elf in commercials aired during The Ozzie and Harriet Show
  • In early 1959, she landed a role as Sam on the TV series, Richard Diamond, Private Detective. Only her legs were ever shown on camera. She was paid $80.00 a week
  • In the summer of 1959, she auditioned and lost the role of Danny's daughter on The Danny Thomas Show because her nose was too small.
  • Her TV series other than TDVDS include: The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Annie McGuire, and Mary
  • She has made several movies, including Thoroughly Modern Millie, Change of Habit, and Ordinary People
  • A member of The Television Academy Hall of Fame 







Larry Mathews as Ritchie Petrie

  • Larry was born on August 15, 1955 in Burbank, California.
  • His real name is Larry Mazzeo
  • TDVDS was his first professional acting job.
  • He graduated from UCLA in 1976.

Carl Reiner as Alan Brady
  • Carl was born on March 20, 1922 in Bronx, New York
  • His wife's name is Estelle Lebost.
  • His son is an actor, director, writer, and producer.
  • On TV in the 1950's he was a regular on Your Show of Shows, Sid Caesar Invites You, and Caesar's Hour.
  • He is the creator of TDVDS and wrote over fifty episodes for the show.
  • He has won 12 Emmy awards throughout his career and is a member of The Television Academy Hall of Fame.
  • His movie credits include: The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

Morey Amsterdam as Buddy Sorrell
  • Morey was born on December 14, 1908 in Chicago, Illinois.
  • He was raised in San Francisco, California.
  • He played the cello.
  • He began his show business career in 1919 as a boy soprano on a California radio show.
  • In the 1930's he was a "Joke Doctor" for Will Rogers, Fanny Brice, Jimmy Durante, Pearl Bailey, and hundreds of others.
  • In the 1940s he co-wrote the Andrews Sisters' hit song "Rum & Coca-Cola."
  • His first TV appearance was Stop Me If You've Heard This One in 1948.
  • Also in 1948 he hosted The Morey Amsterdam Show on TV for CBS.
  • On TV in the 1950's he billed himself as the "Human Joke Machine."

Rose Marie as Sally Rogers
*She was born in New York City on August 15, 1923 as Rose Marie Mazetta.
*In 1926 she made her professional radio debut as Baby Rose Marie.
*In the late 1950's she appeared in The Jackie Gleason Show, M Squad, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, and Gunsmoke.
*In 1960 she had a recurring role on My Sister Eileen.
*Her TV appearances after TDVDS include: Kojak, Love Boat, and Murphy Brown.
*Rose Marie was the center square on Hollywood Squares from 1966 to 1982.



Richard Deacon as Mel Cooley
*Richard was born on May 14, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
*A few of the films that he appeared in were The Blackboard Jungle, That Darn Cat!, The Birds, That Touch of Mink, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
*He had a recurring role as Fred Rutherford on the TV series Leave It to Beaver.
*Other TV appearances include The Twilight Zone, Here's Lucy, Mister Ed, The Untouchables, and B.J. and the Bear.
*"Deac" wrote a book about microwave cooking entitled Richard Deacon's Micro Magic.





Jerry Paris as Jerry Helper
  • Jerry was born on July 25, 1925 in San Francisco, California.
  • Movies that he acted in include: Marty, The Wild One, and The Caine Mutiny.
  • His TV acting credits were Playhouse 90, Kraft Theatre, Studio One, The Lucy Show, and The Danny Thomas Show.
  • He directed over seventy-five episodes of TDVDS.
  • He also directed episodes of The Odd Couple.
  • Jerry was a producer for Happy Days and was the shows house director for nearly ten years.
  • He created the character "Mork" and the TV series Mork & Mindy.



Ann Guilbert as Millie Helper

*Ann was born on October 16, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
*She was in the cast of The Billy Barnes Revue, a 1950's Broadway musical-comedy.
*Other TV roles include The New Andy Griffith Show, Newhart, The Fanelli Boys, and The Nanny.
*Actress Hallie Todd is her daughter. She was born during the first season of TDVDS.
